Fedup is correct there is usually a black wire coming out of the blower housing that grounds the magneto to kill the engine. All ignition switches have a terminal marked "G" (ground). Used my John Deere 4300 3 times today with no problems. A half hour later I went to start it up but all it would do is crank over but it would not start. I have plenty of gas and I bled the fuel system by loosening the bolt that my owners manual said to loosen and cranked over the engine to make sure there was no air in the system. Since one and a half weeks ago my John Deere STX38 lawn tractor wouldn't crank any more. It's about 14 years old, had regular maintenance through our local small engine John Deere dealer, including this spring. The battery shows 12 volts. The engine won't turn over when I turn the ignition switch. The gas line shutoff is turned "on"..
